Today is the first day of June.
Are you already thinking about Father’s Day like I am?
For June’s blogs, thought I would repost favorite past posts I have shared on Facebook about my dad.
I wrote the following post back in 2014…
” Kitty Kallen wasn’t joking when she sang, Little Things Mean a Lot.
Growing up, my dad meant business as a parent.
He just had to give you the look and you stopped with your baloney, you sat up straighter, you began talking right and when it came to the House of God, there was none of this snack thing (sorry, Nathan) or bringing in toys.
I tell you this, to give you a better understanding…
I was around six years old, and we were living in Stockton, California. It was Sunday and time to leave for our evening service.
I decided to bring my doll, knowing full well that she would only be going for the ride.
My dad as he sometimes would, dropped us off at the front of the church then he went to park the car.
I am sitting on the pew when I see my dad at the other end of the pew coming to join us and there in his hand, he has my doll by the arm.
Never mind that this isn’t the proper way to hold a doll, I was beside myself!
And so, I try to imagine him that evening, a grown man walking across the church’s parking lot with a doll dangling from his hand and I wonder what caused him to go ahead and bring her to me.
Chances are good this is all lost in his memory, but his 40-year-old daughter’s heart still melts at remembering…
He hands her doll to her and she is glad she put her doll’s blanket in her purse. She immediately takes it out and spreads it on the pew to lay her down on it.
The service opens with the congregation singing but she doesn’t need to hear them to tell her she’s in heaven. ”
